Electric Car Auto Service FAQs
Do electric cars need oil changes?
No, electric cars do not need to get oil changes because they do not utilize oil like gas vehicles do. This is because EVs are powered by an electric motor and not an engine.
Are electric cars less expensive when it comes to auto service?
With fewer fluids and moving parts than gas-powered cars, electric vehicles are cheaper to maintain. EVs require less maintenance over time because there’s never any need to worry about oil changes, spark plug replacements and other services that are specific to gas-powered vehicles. Some services, such as those related to tires and brakes, will remain the same, but overall your service costs will be less as there are fewer things to address when compared to a gas model.
Does an electric car or a gas car cost more to service?
EV service costs are usually cheaper than gas service prices. Why? Because fewer moving parts and fluids require attention, helping to cut down on costs over time. Per a U.S. Department of Energy report from June 2021, the estimated scheduled maintenance cost of a light-duty battery-electric vehicle is less than $0.07 per mile. Gas vehicles, on the other hand, cost approximately $0.10 per mile to maintain.
How much does charging a car cost?
Charging a car is inexpensive, and occasionally even free! Prices vary based on utility prices, type of charger being used, etc.
