GM Vehicles Can Now Use NACS Charging

The NACS charging network has only been available for Tesla chargers since it was created by Tesla in 2012. However, GM vehicles can now be charged at NACS charging stations through a NACS DC adapter. Learn more about what this means for you with Bowman Chevrolet, and visit our dealership to test-drive any of our new and pre-owned models.

What Is NACS Charging?

NACS stands for North American Charging Standard. It was developed in 2012 by Tesla and has been the standard charging network for Tesla vehicles. NACS can support AC charging as well as DC fast charging. With AC charging, NACS can deliver up to 80 amps at 277 volts. With DC fast charging, NACS delivers up to 500 amps at 500 volts. In more common setups near areas like Clarkston, NACS typically delivers up to 48 amps at 240 volts.

Benefits of Charging GM Vehicles With NACS

GM is a founding member of IONNA, a joint venture created to establish a nationwide charging network, and it has a goal of installing over 30,000 charging stations. With the creation of the NACS DC adapter, you now have access to nearly 20,000 Tesla chargers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Even better is that the NACS DC adapter is portable and can easily be carried in your car for convenient access. So whether you’re running errands around Waterford or taking a much-needed getaway, you’ll be able to keep your vehicle charged when you carry a NACS DC adapter.

How to Know What Chargers Are Near You

With the myChevy, myCadillac, or myGMC mobile app, you can plan your routes accordingly. The app lets you know what chargers are near Grand Blanc or wherever you happen to be driving, so you can make sure your car is fully charged for the entire trip. The app even tells you how much battery level you have and if you need to stop at a charging station soon.

For more information about this app and anything related to NACS charging, reach out to our finance center at Bowman Chevrolet.

Does the NACS DC adapter come with a warranty?

The NACS DC Adapter comes with a 12-month limited warranty from the date of purchase.

Will I void any warranty if I use a non-GM adapter?

GM strongly advises that you use a GM-approved NACS DC adapter for charging on the Tesla Supercharger Network since it’s specifically designed to protect GM EV batteries while charging. Not using this adapter could potentially damage the vehicle’s battery.

The NACS DC Adapter MSRP is $225.

How do I cancel or return my NACS order?

Simply email our customer support team with the subject “NACS CANCELLATION OR RETURN.” You can email customer support at [email protected].

Does the NACS DC adapter work with Level 2 Tesla chargers?

Unfortunately, no. The NACS DC adapter is designed exclusively for safe use with Tesla Superchargers and NACS DC fast charging stations. However, there are still plenty of V3 Tesla Superchargers and additional chargers in the network to choose from.
