When Was Chevrolet Founded?

On November 3rd, 1911, the Chevrolet Motor Company was officially founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant in Detroit, Michigan. Over the next decade, the company saw unprecedented success in their vehicles’ design, performance, and sales. Chevrolet quickly rose to be one of the top car manufacturing brands in the industry, and continues to grow today with their lineup of Chevrolet trucks, sedans, and SUVs. Who Founded Chevrolet?

As mentioned above, Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant founded Chevrolet in 1911 with the explicit goal to create a car for “every purse and every purpose.” Louis Chevrolet was originally a Swiss race car driver and engineer who inspired those around him to produce vehicles that could serve people from all walks of life. William C. Durant was originally the founder and president of General Motors, but he saw an opportunity to create a bigger automotive company when he met Louis Chevrolet. Once Chevrolet was founded, Durant engineered a reverse merger with General Motors, combining the companies and reclaiming his original title of president of a now much bigger and profitable automotive company.

Where Was The First Chevrolet Factory?

Although the Chevrolet Motor Company was founded in Detroit, Waterford drivers may be surprised to find out that the first Chevy factory was actually built at the corner of Wilcox and Kearsley Street in Flint, Michigan. This area is known today as the “Chevy Commons” and is located across the street from Kettering University.

Where Was The First Chevy Model Produced?

Louis Chevrolet and Etienne Planche created the first Chevy vehicle, the Series C Classic Six. Released in 1913 – just two years after the company opened – the Series C Classic Six was made to rival the popular Ford Model T, which was also made commercially available to the general population.

Where Does The Chevy Logo Come from?

The origin of the Chevy logo has been debated by historians and auto-enthusiasts alike for some time. What we know for sure is that the logo was used in 1914 on the H Series Baby Grand, the Royal Mail, and the Light Six L Series.

From here the stories begin to change. Some believe that William C. Durant got the idea for the Chevrolet bowtie emblem from the wallpaper of a hotel room that he had stayed at in France. Others believe the logo was inspired by a similar logo for the Coalettes coal company. A third theory suggests that the Chevy bowtie pays homage to the Swiss cross, a symbol that would have been familiar to Louis Chevrolet and William Durant. Whatever its origins, the Chevy logo remains one of the most recognizable automobile logos around Grand Blanc today!
