How to Program Chevy a Garage Door Opener

If you’re a new Chevy owner near Clarkston or Clarkston, you’ll want to take full advantage of the HomeLink® system that comes with your vehicle. This remote control technology is much more than a garage door opener: you can also connect your vehicle to your home security system and other electrical systems and appliances. Read below for step-by-step instructions on how to program the Chevy garage door opener, and contact our service center to speak with an expert technician for programming help.

How to Program Your HomeLink® Garage Door Opener for the First Time

Setting up your HomeLink® system to connect with your garage door and other devices is simple. First, make sure your remote control transmitter has a fresh battery. Then park your car in the driveway facing the garage, and take the following steps:

1. Start the ignition.
2. Locate the HomeLink® unit. You’ll find it in one of three places: on the ceiling, above the center console, or close to the rearview mirror. You’ll note that the HomeLink® unit has 3 buttons.
3. Press and hold the first and third buttons together, until your car’s interior lights begin to flash. You may need to hold the buttons down for as long as 20 seconds. When the lights begin to flash, move onto the next step.
4. Choose a HomeLink® button to assign to your garage door opener. Press and hold this button, and press the open/close button on your garage door opener at the same time. Your HomeLink® indicator light should now switch from slow flashing to rapid flashing. That indicates you’ve successfully connected your garage door opener to HomeLink®!
5. When the indicator light changes to solid, programming is complete.

In some instances, the HomeLink® indicator light continues flashing rapidly. If programming is unsuccessful after several attempts, the reason is most likely that your garage door uses a rolling code system. Follow these steps to program HomeLink® for a rolling code system:

1. Find the “learn code” button on your garage door opener. Depending on your system, it will be located under the light cover or on the rear panel.
2. Press and hold the “learn code” button until a red LED begins to blink. From this point, you have 30 seconds to complete the programming.
3. While the LED is blinking, return to your vehicle and press the pre-programmed HomeLink® button at least 4 times, until the garage door responds.

Repeat the previous four steps to connect other systems to the remaining two HomeLink® buttons, and your HomeLink® wireless control system should be ready to go!
